About Smithwick

How we started and where we are going

Smithwick Strata Services was founded in 1998 by Ida Smithwick, a past President of the Strata Titles Institute of Western Australia. In 2009, Henry Vurens van Es, coming from a background in the service industry in construction and business development, acquired ownership of Smithwick after a two year transition.

As a result of the acquisition, the business model was modified from the traditional approach to Strata Management to a more proactive and focussed business model employing experienced staff within the specialist areas of Strata Management (Maintenance / Facilities Management, Accounting, Meetings Facilitation, and Compliance). Since the change of ownership and business model, Smithwick has grown the portfolio by over 250% and the portfolio as well as the team of staff continues to grow.

Our Strata Profile

What we cover and where

Smithwick manages all types of stratas. Smithwick has a diversified portfolio across the strata industry with commercial, retail, residential, mixed use, and survey strata clients. Our focus is on the Perth metropolitan area.

Smithwick, currently manages over 120 Strata Companies. Our portfolio includes a range of different types of buildings including modern 207 unit apartment complexes, shopping centres, industrial units, commercial centres and three unit residential complexes. Smithwick also manage many of Perth Iconic buildings such as Mt Eliza residential apartments (the ‘Milk Bottle’) near Kings Park in Mount Street, and Strathearn Apartments in Crawley. We believe that this diverse range of projects gives Smithwick a good understanding of the needs of residents, owners, and the maintenance needs for the different types of buildings.

As each building is different, we provide many of our properties with a different range of services to meet their specific needs which is achievable with the skills and experience of our staff and the contractors which we engage.

The residential properties range from small 3 owner units to a high rise of 100 apartments. These properties are located north and south of the Swan river, from Mindarie in the north, to Spearwood in the south and Mundaring in the east.

Commercial / Retail
Smithwick manage a number of shopping and commercial centres, these include a mixture of large suburban complexes and medium sized centres located in retail shopping precincts in both inner and outer city suburbs.

The industrial stratas include factory and manufacturing units light industrial areas around Perth.

Combination Residential and Retail
Smithwick have several of hybrid complexes. These are interesting properties because of the interplay between the business issues of the retail shops and the domestic needs of the residential owners.

High Rises
Smithwick manage several high rise complexes. These are challenging properties because they require specialised knowledge of security, and specialist building maintenance issues.
